Chou Hui-Hua Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the condition of understanding and needs in gifted education of high school gifted students’ parents in Taiwan, and to explore the difference on the personal background variables. The questionnaires which were self-designed is a tool for collecting data. The participants are 390 gifted students' parents. Data is analyzed by using the statistical approaches of descriptive statistics , t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation. The results are revealed as follows: 1.The understanding and needs in gifted education of gifted students’ parents are intermediate level. 2.The different background of gifted students' parents have significant difference on the extent of understanding gifted education . (1)About “the target of gifted education”, Taichiung City is better than Taipei City. (2)About “the defition of giftedness and the characteristics of gifted students.”,classes for gifted in math and science are better than the dance,art and music classes for gifted. (3)About “the defition of giftedness and the characteristics of gifted students.”,normal families are better than single-parent families. (4)About “the execution of gifted education”,females are better than males. 3. The needs in knowing gifted education of gifted students’ parents varies on location and family. (1)About “the execution of gifted education”, the parents in Taichiung and Tainan City are higher than Taipei City. (2)About “the purpose of gifted education”, normal families are higher than single-parent families. 4.The understanding and needs in gifted education of gifted students’ parents are low correlation. Based on the results, suggestions for schools and educational administration are offered.
