Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 人資處造形藝術碩士專班 === 99 === Sunbeam‧Water Reflection‧Purification of My Mind : A Study On Glue Painting By Hui-Lan Huang Abstract What is the Realistic Taiwanese Localism in painting? What kind of paintings are those with the most Taiwanese artistic characteristics and the most typical? What is Glue painting? About the answer to the questions is given, the majority of the people without previous artistic training or background are puzzled by the unfamiliar name of the coloring material. Moreover, a lot of those with some artistic training or background have never heard of this very particular type of source material either. Very little about Glue Painting is known as if it were soundlessly originated in China, developed and matured in Japan. Also, it has scarcely been heard of or studied in Taiwan. Likewise, it is rarely an independent category itself in art contests. In fact, it has been 116 years since Glue Painting was first introduced by the colonial Japanese to Taiwan in 1895. Yet, its popularity, compared with western oil painting and water color or with oriental ink paint and calligraphy, has not been changed much over the past century. Glue Painting remains unfamiliar and unnoticed likely results from its relatively high cost as well as the complicity of painting with this source material. However, when having a Glue Painting in view, most people are amazed and fascinated by its elegant and unique qualities. Take the works of the respected Yu-Shan Lin and Jin Chen as examples. Their works bring an intensive sense of Taiwanese localism. Other well-known artists such as Zhi-Zhu Lin and Shen-Chou Xu focus on presenting and expressing a refined gracefulness and lasting charm through their paintings. I embraces the nature, sets out to the woods, and wades across the streams trying to integrate the natural beauty of Taiwan into my own paintings with life sketching techniques and the pre-knowledge on Glue Painting as a source material. After studying the origin and development of Glue painting as well as comparing works from different painters, I wishes to use Glue painting to realistically and truly portray the powerful simplicity of my home land Taiwan: The tranquility and limpid of a river bank, the dazzling light reflection on the surface of a pond. Through the sheen reflected by mineral substance and the depth accumulated between layers of Glue painting, I hope not only leads the viewers to the untouched natural beauty of Taiwan but also to a new understanding of Glue painting in Taiwanese art.
