In the growth trial, three isonitrogenous and isocaloric experimental diets containing extracted soybean protein ( ESP ), defatted fish protein ( DFP ) of Japanese scad and casein were fed to triplicate group for 12 weeks . At the end of the growth trial, the final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate of tilapia fed casein diet was higher than tilapia fed DFP and ESP diets . The feed efficiency and protein efficiency of tilapia fed DFP diet was higher than casein and ESP diets . The feed conversion ratio and feed intake of tilapia fed casein diet was higher than tilapia fed ESP and DFP . In the study of postprandial changes in free amino acids in the blood of tilapia, 108 fish were divided into 3 groups and were acclimated with ESP, DFP and casein for 1 week respectively . After acclimation, three groups of tilapia were starved for 48 hours and then 6 fish in each group were taken as zero time samples . The remaining fish were fed the three groups of diets and then 6 fish each group were taken at 2, 4, 8, 16 and 24 hours after feeding . The blood samples were withdrawn individually from the caudal peduncle of all sample fish . The free amino acid concentration in the whole blood and the plasma were analyzed by using the HPLC system . Based on the results of postprandial changes of free acid absorbed from the casein diet was found at 4 hours after feeding . The DFM diet and casein diet have the same results, the utilization of amino acids absorbed from the DFP diet was found at 4 hours after feeding . However, a much slow rate of amino acids utilization was found at 8 hours after feeding the ESP diet . In this study, tilapia intake of DFP than SEP to grow great conditions, but poor than the casein . Therefore, tilapia intake of plant protein ( SEP ), the absorption and utilization significantly different of animal protein ( DFP ) and water – soluble protein ( Casein ) . Free amino acids in the blood of the postprandial changes and the time of utilization were considered to be the cause of inferior growth of tilapia, further experimentation is necessary to explain fully this observation .
