The landscape has also been transformed from the rural style into the modern city. Most of the Northern Kaohsiung which located in the north of the Kaohsiung Train Station (north of Jianguo Road) maintained the primitive landscape of old villages, farmlands, irrigation canals and ponds till the end of the Japanese colonial era. In order to fulfill the urban planning included reorganizing the cadastre, reducing the pressure of population, balancing the regional development, coordinating large-scale public works, obtaining the public land and eliminating the fractional land ,the government launched a series of urban land readjustments after World War II.Nearly one-third of the constructed lands of Kaohsiung City nowadays are formed from 90 urban land readjustments. This study attempts to research into the progress of landscape shaping in Northern Kaohsiung through 39 urban land readjustments. The study shows that there are three phases of urban land readjustments during the period from 1945 to 2010. In the first phase (1945-1977), the laws and regulations weren’t complete. The readjustment land concentrated in the back region of Kaohsiung Train Station. After readjustment, the chessboard style residential districts appeared. They are moderate, upright, foursquare, and face the road equally. This variation set a crucial foundation of urban land shaping. In the second phase (1977-1986), the public infrastructure projects were considered, and the land owners were stipulated to take responsibilities to the public facilities. In this stage, the readjustment land was developed along the Love River, expanded toward to the east and the west area. And the mixed commercial and residential districts began occurred in the farmland. In the third phase (1986-2010), the laws and regulations were completely developed. Numerous tall buildings appeared rapidly. Lots of massive public infrastructures were finished as well. The readjustment regions had been transferred into veritable urban landscape.
