Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 幼兒教育學系 === 99 === The major purpose of this study was to understand kindergartners’ and their parents’ perceptions of a good kindergarten teacher. Based on the purpose, the main research questions were: What are kindergarteners’ and their parents’ perceptions of a good kindergarten teacher ? What are the similarities and differences of these two perspectives? In this study, researcher adopted qualitative research methods to collect data. Data collection methods included:drama playing, group discussion, worksheet, informal interview, children observation, parental survey, and personal reflection journal. The research findings are as follows: The image of a good kindergarten teacher in the eyes of kindergarteners is being gentle, which means “speak gently”, “look gentle”, “always smile”, and “being nice to everyone”. Also, children think a good kindergarten teacher should possess the following features: (1) knowledge – being intellectual; (2) teaching and activities – order a lot of books for students to read and to write; (3) teacher-student interaction–being reasonable; (4) administration – typing students’ data in the computer; (5) daily caring activities. The image of a good kindergarten teacher in the eyes of parents is to have a motherly nature--being gentle and persistent. Also, parents think a good kindergarten teacher should possess the following features: (1) being patient and affective; (2) emphasizing moral education ; (3) teaching actively; (4) having a good communication skill; (5) obtaining relevant educational and working experiences and passed the national exam; (6) always learning new things and having passion for teaching. Similar viewpoints of kindergartners and parents include: “look gentle”, “affectionate”, “patient” and “having a motherly nature”. Different viewpoints include: different definition of and requirement for gentleness. Kindergartners’ and parents’ viewpoints on a good teacher’s professional capability are similar on the following three aspects: “knowledge – being intellectual” “always learning new things and having a passion for teaching”; “teaching and activities – ordering a lot of books for us to read and to write” and “teaching subject knowledge”; “administration – typing students’ data in the computer” and “emphasizing moral education”. Their different viewpoints are: Parents require teachers to have relevant educational and working experience and pass the national exam; “daily caring activities”, “teaching actively” and “good communication skills”. In terms of communication skills, parents tend to emphasize more on parent-teacher communication; however, children tend to emphasize more on teachers’ reasonable communication between teacher and children. Finally, the study made a number of recommendations to kindergarten teachers, parents and teacher training organizations according to the above research findings.
