Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 特殊教育學系 === 99 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) on children with moderate or severe intellectual disabilities. Two ten-year-old girls were selected as participants using judgmental sampling and milieu teaching was adopted in the study. Micro-computer voice communication boards were utilized as teaching tools. Visual analysis and Tryon’s C statistics were conducted based on within- and between-phase data. Social validity was also established through observation data and interview with caregivers to each participant. Data from intervention showed increasing progress in communication and behaviors on both participants, and the effectiveness was shown from intervention phase to short-term maintenance. Those participants also had increasing progress from short-term maintenance to long-term maintenance. The occurrence of inappropriate communicative behaviors on one participant was decreased. In terms of social validity, classroom involvement and learning motives of both participants were increased. Parents were positive about this teaching research as well. The conclusions were made as follows: 1. The AAC teaching had immediate, maintaining and sustaining effectiveness on the communicative behaviors on children with moderate or severe intellectual disabilities;2. The AAC teaching had a positive effect on decreasing the frequency of inappropriate communicated behaviors for children with moderate or severe intellectual disabilities;3. Caregivers of these two participants felt positive about AAC teaching.
