That is a basic politeness. In Chinese society, when we use verbal forms to show greetings, the primary problem is how to use an address form appropriately. Chinese is the language we are accustomed to, so the address forms have been internalized in our mind, we do not need to remeber the rules. In this study, we would like to explore the following questions: If there is a clear regularity of using address forms ? And, how to use the appropriate address is to show politeness? In this study, we choose Taiwan as the scope, and greetings and address as the object. We collected greeting dialogues in Hou''s novels as our materials. We discussed the situations of using address in two different views: one is from The traditional Chinese politeness norms, and the other is from the Chinese social orientation. By reviewing the literature, We generalized the rules of using address into three: relatives of address forms, social address, and other address. Politeness and culture are closely related; therefore, to use an address form appropriately is related to culture. If we consider Chinese people’s view of face and view of self-concept, when we use an address. Then, we can meet the "politeness ". Lip-mo Yen 嚴立模 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 149 zh-TW |

In this study, we choose Taiwan as the scope, and greetings and address as the object. We collected greeting dialogues in Hou''s novels as our materials. We discussed the situations of using address in two different views: one is from The traditional Chinese politeness norms, and the other is from the Chinese social orientation.

Politeness and culture are closely related; therefore, to use an address form appropriately is related to culture. If we consider Chinese people’s view of face and view of self-concept, when we use an address. Then, we can meet the "politeness ".
