However, references about the silent chain are less published in public because of its technical secrecy and large variability. Therefore, a theoretical model for designing the round-pin-joined silent chain system is presented in this thesis. Based on this model, the contact point of each meshing stage and the meshing indices, including the fluctuation of chain-pin-center and the impact velocities at the initial contact and at where the inside mesh transfers to outside mesh between the chain element and the chain wheel, can be obtained. Further, the ANSYS/LS-DYNA software is also applied to construct the CAE model of the chain system for the purpose to compare the results with the theoretical model. The theoretical and CAE models established in this thesis can be further applied on different kinds of silent chains.
