Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北護理學院 === 護理研究所 === 99 === The purpose for this study is to explore experiences of new immigrant mothers from Southeast Asia when caring their children with cancer. This study obtained information by one-to-one semi-structured interviews with each individual mother. The results was then analyzed with Colaizzi’s (1978) and phenomenological methods. This study was able to formula 6 topics from the information gathered from the 8 new immigrant mothers’ experience. 1. Shocked by the devastating news and fear of losing their child. 2. Patiently awaits for treatment response while holding on to hope. 3. Doing everything in their power to save their child. 4. Confronted by problems due to cultural and language differences.5. Grateful for the establishment of Taiwan National Health Insurance versus refusal of help from their maiden home. 6. Life-changing. Hopefully the findings in this study can broaden our understandings toward new immigrant mothers from Southeast Asia and bring us closer to each other by learning their ways of life and thinking. Under family-centered concept, the findings in this study can also serve as helpful references for our nursing staffs caring together with new immigrant mothers from Southeast Asia for their children with cancer.
