Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 資訊科學系碩士班 === 99 === With the advanced network and computer technologies, video-on-demand (VoD) services become very popular. In order to provide multimedia streaming services steadily and continuously, an effective strategy is based on caching This study thus investigates how to replace video segments to yield high cache hit ratio. With the improvement of hit ratio, the problem of resource shortage on VoD services can be greatly alleviated.
This work proposes a segment-based two-layer caching approach to increase cache hit ratio. This approach divides a cache into two parts, and dynamically allocates their size. One cache part is based on LRU, and the other is on LRU-K. The approach also specially caches playing video data to avoid replacing to-be-hit data. The issue on playing forward or stop is considered by our approach. This work further designs an admission control mechanism to determine which incoming video segments should be cached. Finally, we conduct comprehensive simulation experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. In compassion with previous researches, our approach yields higher hit ratio under various environmental parameters, such as cache size, video popularity, request arrival rate, playing forward/stop rate, and shift interval of video popularity.
