They were concerned that Hong Kong handover will change their past history, current economic prosperity and future development. Under this concern, Hong Kong residents’ various complex emotions composed the "1997 Handover Anxiety." This powerful sense of anxiety is not only because of the specific events related to Hong Kong Handover, but it is also affected by Hong Kong residents’ strong urban personalities. With the political events and the change of societal environment, Hong Kong handover and the urban personalities soon create the resonance phenomenon, and this is the significant central axis in my thesis. This paper takes the 1997 handover anxiety as the main observation point with urban personalities as a supporting angle, to study how the literature reflect the epicenter, the Hong Kong handover, at three levels: (a) Since the issue, 1997 Hong Kong handover, has started, how do the Hong Kong literature writers face the social changes in the forthcoming future? In the face of various political events, what kind of interaction between 1997 handover anxiety and urban personalities was shown in the text? (b) With the enormous contemporary societal/political changes around 1997, how did the Hong Kong writers and residents respond to 1997 Hong Kong handover, and what were their attitudes and focuses?(c) Thirteen years after Hong Kong handover, Hong Kong seems already settled; How do the writers look at recent development and urban changes? What kind of attitude do they have to face the future? Through all this turmoil, are there any different contemporary styles from the past created in Hong Kong Literature? These issues are so important that they can not be missed when researchers investigate Hong Kong literature. Chan, Tah Wei 陳大為 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 145 zh-TW
