Currently, the exhibition digitized quickly. In that way, probably speed up the digital transformation of distribution, and production. For this reason, study to the value chain of digital film industry is so important, and may need a great attention from the industry, government, and academia.
The thesis based on the theories of Porter five forces analysis, and Porter‘s diamond model. Furthermore, it applied the qualitative research methods of in-depth interviews and secondary research. With these theories and research methods, the data of digital film industry value chain had been sorted out systematically. Besides, with a broad overview of digital film industry value chain and a comparative analysis of the traditional value chain, this thesis explored the impact on film industry under the development of digital technology. In addition, this thesis discussed on several policies related to the digital film industry in Taiwan, to increase the depth and breadth.
After data analysis, this thesis found that the digital technology doesn’t cause any significant changes to the marketing and the content of film. However, it has some obvious impacts on hardware. On the production, it may increase the convenience, consistency, efficiency, replication rate and reduce the costs. Moreover, also have the advantages of real-time monitoring, and digital restoration. But the digital production may not be able to replace the traditional production in a short time. However, the local post-production may be more important than nowadays. And then, the impacts of digital technology also included digital copies, KDM, DCI specifications, VPF, and other extents. To the large distribution, these can save costs of producing copies; and may let the management more convenient to the exhibition. In addition, prevent from piracy, and avoid the theaters showing illegal. But these will increase in many of the costs of small distribution. These problems may be solved by the government's guidance, and satellite transmission technology or other methods. Furthermore, TMS may diverse the movies released by theaters, so that small distribution, and the independent theaters may get advantages. In addition, the TV industry, technology industry, and the third party companies, etc., are possible to become a threat of the extents of film industry chain, and to replace the existing industry. Therefore, cinema must use its gathering features, and IMAX projection technology, etc., divided itself from other media. In the future, if the high definition projection equipment, VOD, high speed internet, and satellite transmission technology, etc., are readily available, small broadcasting areas may established more and more, may reduce the digital divide in Taiwan, and affect audiences’ willing to go to theaters. In that way, it will benefit to small distribution, and second-round theaters.
In the other hand, Taiwan policies which related to the digital film industry, including " Finishing produced films and transfer the digital film into traditional allowance of Government Information Office ", "The top unit, and strategy unit of Taiwan movies allowance of Government Information Office " （2010）, " Coding and compressing the digital film primary elements allowance of Government Information Office "," Upgrading the equipment level of digital film industry allowance of Government Information Office ", etc., the allowance amount depends on the cost. Such policies have brought many benefits to the Taiwan digital film industry.
