碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 工業管理系 === 99 === In most cases, advantage of pooling is obvious such as in situation where risk pooling effect can occur. On the other hand, pooling also damages the service level, especially the geographical pooling, because it makes longer distance to customer to reach the pooled facility. This research proposes a flexible pooling system. A method of pooling that can obtain advantages of pooling without sacrificing service level by switching/transporting the jobs to the resources or switching/transporting resources to meet the demand. Models to find optimum cost of resource and switching/transporting are developed. Since the models and the system are different from the traditional pooling system in term of additional cost of switching/transporting, than study of the effect of demand correlation coefficient to the performance of this flexible pooling system models is necessarily conducted. We find that flexible ‘pooling by switching’ can significantly improve the performance compared to non-pooled system in various demand correlation coefficients.
