The success factors of Taiwan's railway branch line affecting the local tourism development- Take the Jingtong community as an example.

The three branches of Taiwan Railways, being used to be quiet busy transportations, are once programmed to be suspended owing to their causing constant deficits; this tactic made residents near branches petition for tourism transformation. In recent years under every level of government doing their best endeavors to promote cultural tourism, each railway branch incorporate local sightseeing events which already become new trend in contemporary tourism. Taking Jingtong community as an example, this research explores the effect of railway culture on the development of Jingtong community. It manifests how residents in this community make use of railway and remains of ancient industry to prompt community consciousness, protect remaining industries, and create new opportunity to attract touring crowds; at the same time also investigates community reformation and how railway culture professionals via culture innovation, remains of local coal mines and railway culture to make beatific atmosphere of vestige and leisure. Using content analysis as a research method, this research collects documents, reflections of visiting foreign railway business models and adds on in-depth residential interview. The research results indicate that the way resorts to develop railway tourism successfully are characterized by distinctness, remembrance, uniqueness, community consciousness, and so on. The railways should possess policy, touring, historical origin, and culture. There are developmental conditions above in Jingtong, but residents’ community consciousness has not been entirely reinforced yet. After all, the research proposals are recommended for the sake of tourism developments in Jingtong community and future management tactics of Taiwan Railways on the basis of research results.
