Conventional forms of bioelectric phenomena are electrocardiography (ECG), electromyography (EMG),electroencephalography (EEG) and electrooculography (EOG), and they are recorded with dedicated bioelectric instruments respectively because of measuring different magnitude and frequency ranges of bioelectric signal sources. In this paper, a novel reconfigurable biopotential amplifier is proposed to measure aforementioned different forms of bioelectric phenomena. The proposed reconfigurable biopotential amplifier introduces signal switching controllers and digital variable resistors to deal with different bioelectric signals with various magnitude and frequency ranges. A microcontroller is used to reconfigure the circuit layout and the filter setting so that a specific bioelectric signal could be properly collected. A reconfigurable biopotential amplifier prototype is realized in this paper, and the experiments of measuring ultra low voltage sine waves and ECG simulator are evaluated first, and then the experiments of measuring ECG, EMG, EEG and EOG from the subjects are also discussed to verify our approach.
