Description
Summary:博士 === 中國文化大學 === 史學系 === 99 === Tainan is the earliest development city in Taiwan. Since the Dutch Period and the Cheng Chen-kung Period, Europeans and Han people have stayed in Tainan as the base to develop Taiwan. Therefore, Tainan has a unique historical position in the 200 years that creates its sense of history. With the expansion of the territory, the development of Taiwan had gradually moved to the north. Toward the end of the Qing Dynasty, the powers of Fujian were unable to handle all invasions. The Beijing government also noticed the complexity of Taiwan’s problems. The status of Tainan was replaced by Taipei. During the period of Japanese Colonialism, Taipei was even increased the political significance. In addition to this, the economic and cultural roles of Taipei were more important than ever. During the Japanese-Ruled Period, Tainan was just the second city of Taiwan. However, the cultural strength of Tainan was able to compete against Taipei. The traditional gentry and modern intelligentsia agglomerated the strength. Taiwanese and Japanese in Tainan area played important parts in the culture activities. They could be put on a par with the culture elites in Taipei area. During the shift in the new regime, the culture strength seemed to rise again. Under the leading of Ying-Zong Long, the Japanese column in China Daily News demonstrated another culture atmosphere. The dissertation tries to understand the content of the culture activities during the political and cultural transitions in 1945. Another point of the dissertation focuses on the four intelligentsia in Tainan area. They represent how the intelligentsia responds to the transformation in 1940s. With the burst of Sino-Japanese War in 1937, they must face the stress given by the Japanese Colonialism. During the East Asian War, Japan ruled the people with even stronger power. In 1940s, the intelligentsia encountered two significant wars brought by the Japanese Colonialism and National Government. They must deal with the identities of the nationality and culture in a short time. The thought of the intelligentsia was just an epitome of the Taiwan’s history. Experienced with the changeable and spirited times, their minds were always valuable topics. There are total six chapters of the dissertation. The chapter one brings out the preface. The chapter two mainly focuses on the roles and works of Ying-Zong Long. He was charge of the Japanese column in China Daily News in Tainan. The chapter three states the processes to build the concept of literature by Shi-Tao Ye during Taiwan Restoration period.
