Every country in the world takes the development of zero-pollution transportation vehicles as the policy guidelines. However, no matter the fuel battery, biomass energy or solar energy cells, none of them have developed as mature as the lithium battery, so the lithium battery is definitely the first energy choice in this new era. The key materials of lithium battery include the following four kinds, namely, cathode material, anode material, membrane and electrolytic solution, among which the cathode material is the part dedicated to being developed by the global manufacturers. That’s because the cathode material is the major source of the lithium ions, which brings the greatest influence on the density of capacitance that increases the efficiency of the lithium battery, as well as the cost structure of the lithium battery. Thus, it draws the most attentions among these four materials. Moreover, the membrane, with high technical requirements, becomes the one that can get the highest gross profit ratio among the materials. The various kinds of lithium battery can be named by different combination of cathode materials. The car lithium battery on the current market is divided into three kinds, namely Li-MnO2 battery, Li-Co-Ni-Mno2 battery and Li-Fe-PO4 battery. The mainstream of the car lithium battery is mainly the Li-MnO2 battery, for this kind of battery is with high security and low manufacturing difficulties, plus the abundant deposit of the Manganese element in the Earth. However, with the technological development, Li-Fe-PO4 battery will be more likely to become the star among the lithium batteries in the future mainly because of its high density of capacitance, excellent stability and security, plus the abundant deposit of the raw material, so that it won’t concern about the material shortage and high manufacturing cost. Although Li-Fe-PO4 battery seems to occupy great advantages, there are still some problems to be overcome, such as the ownership of the patent rights and the processing techniques, both of which become the obstacles of Li-Fe-PO4 battery against improving the market penetration ratio. Currently, Japan, South Korea and China get the largest market share of the lithium battery. However, China increases the market share of the global lithium battery only by its large consumption market now. Under the current economic development speed in China, the labor payment will be significantly increased. In the future, it won’t be sure whether China can maintain the current market share if china cannot catch up with Japan and Korea in the manufacturing techniques and the factory site of the battery manufacturers will be transferred to other lower-paid countries. Although Taiwan is in a disadvantaged status in terms of the internal conditions, if we can work out some breakthroughs on the manufacturing techniques, it will be a good opportunity for Taiwan to develop lithium battery industry, in which Taiwan provides the lithium battery techniques, while China provides the electric cars and wide consumption market.
