The Research of the Psychological Needs of Female Schizophrenia Patients in the Family Relationship:Using by TAT

碩士 === 實踐大學 === 家庭研究與兒童發展學系碩士班 === 99 === This study attempts to understand the psychological needs of female schizophrenia patients in the family relationship by the TAT test. Six participants, limited to 25 to 40-year-old females with schizophrenia, were tested with eight TAT cards, whose six cards are decided by the researcher, the other two decided by self-selection. This is the major research tool to understand their psychological needs. In this study, the researcher used qualitative research methods, mainly in Bellak and Abrams proposed analytical framework to describe, interpret and diagnose psychological needs for qualitative analysis of TAT stories, then collected participants’ other relevant background records and information and the researcher’s observation records along with them, as interpreted patients’ psychological needs of the family relationship by TAT , a reference evidence. There are results had be found in this study as follows, I. TAT is an useful tool to explore the psychological needs of female schizophrenia patients in the family relationship : the psychological needs of the family relationship can be divided into twelve, and three areas as follows: 1. Love and Belongingness: the need for love, the need for intimacy, the need for acceptedness, the need for identity, the need for home, and the need for partner. 2. Respect: the need for self-esteem , the need for autonomy, and the need for good communication. 3. Security : the need for security , the need for not leave and not abandoned, and the need for assistance. II. TAT stories show the internal working model of female schizophrenia patients: Female schizophrenia patients mainly belong to insecure attachment style. To seek inner attachment, reflected in the following requirements: the need for love, the need for intimacy, the need for home, the need for security, the need for not leave and not abandoned, the need for assistance, and the need for partner; the frustration in the process of seeking, to form the following requirements: the need for acceptedness, the need for identity, the need for good communication, the need for self-esteem, the need for autonomy, and the need for security about interpersonal stability. The common ways of coping: a flat emotional expression as protection; all expectancies transfer to their partners; wait for the future; and to indulge in the fantasy world, and exaggerated narcissistic tendencies. III. TAT stories of female schizophrenia patients strongly reflected needs for love and partner. IV. Female schizophrenia patients will wait for the future but lack for detailed treatment process, as a way of coping in difficulties. V. Review the model for halfway houses: the halfway houses really help the need for security, the need for assistance, the need for intimacy, and the need for acceptedness. There are some needs shoulded be strengthen for assistance or counseling: the needs about love and belongingness, the need for partner counseling, the need for self-esteem, and the need for good communication. VI. TAT cards and psychological needs of reactions: The following introductions are easily projected some of the psychological needs: Card【1】: the need for self-esteem, the need for achievement, and the need for thinking self-control; Card【2】: the need for partner; Card【6BM】: the need for autonomy, the need for good communication, and the need for partner; Card【6GF】: the need for intimacy, and the need for partner; Card【7BM】: the need for partner, the need for not leave and not abandoned, and the need for assistance; Card【7GF】: the need for autonomy. VII. Discover the other psychological needs, coping, and particular. According to this study, the researcher’s observation and reflection about female schizophrenia patients and the using of TAT cards are as follows: 1. Hidden in indifferent exist a delicate heart. 2. Desire for love, but form two extreme love relationships: reject or indulge in love. 3.To indulge in the fantasy world is an escape, but also a way to get a short break and enjoyment. 4. TAT is worth to develop as a medium of interview with female schizophrenia patients. Recommendations in the study: the researcher recommend for the health care system, psychiatric rehabilitation agencies or psychological professionals are: 1.The researcher may understand the patient's family relationship and psychological needs through TAT. 2. Assisting families and patients to establish the appropriate mode of interaction. 3. Strengthening the counseling about both sexes contact in early adulthood females with schizophrenia. 4. Strengthening the empowerment of female schizophrenia patients and problem solving learning. The recommendations in academic research are: 1.Increasing multiple objective subjects. 2. Exploring other possibilities through TAT.
