This study proved that Lee indeed deserved respect no matter its about his career, his pursuit in research, his relationships with his masters and peers, or his strive in fulfilling his responsibilities as an officer; some instances among others are: his poems and verses featuring his distinct points and style, his straight interactions with his masters and peers without self-interest considerations, and especially his abundant wealth in book collection and his own theses and writing, further more his research article “A Review on Liulichang* Book Market” (*literally Emperor’s Ceramic Mill) led the way in inviting the attention and research of book market and inspiring those interested in this domain. Chih-Cheng Fang, a famed scholar recommended that the article set a typical model for “Compiling & Editing Style” for Local Gazetteers, besides, Lee also created an additional branch “Chin-Shih Kao”, literally “Investigation on Seal Carving & Inscription”, to the traditional local gazetteers, and this best demonstrated Lee’s sound knowledge and distinctive point of view. However, to the author’s investigation and search, as so far, few theses on Lee’s works have been found throughout the world, except one thesis found in Taiwan and another in China, and neither general nor overall research thesis has been found. This study demonstrated the achievements made by Lee by capturing Lee’s total dedication and efforts to his research works through his lifetime stages, writing works, and interactions and relationships with his peers and people, and in particular his accomplishments in the domains of scholastic writing, book collection, book proofreading and revision, Seal Carving & Inscription studies, local gazetteers. Behind the thesis title “A Study on Wen-Tsao Lee’s Achievements in Documentology” is the author’s emphasis and focus – to capture a more holistic and in-depth depicting of Lee and his achievements and ultimately to promote his works to the upcoming researchers.
