Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 企業管理學系 === 99 === This thesis compares the marginal performance of baseball teams between American League and National League of Major League Baseball, including Technical Efficiency, Pure Technical Efficiency and Scale Efficiency. DEA-BCC model, System-DEA model are used to analyze the data of all 14 teams in American League and all 16 teams in National League over the period from 2005 to 2008. The result shows that AL has better performance in Scale Efficiency and the variance in Pure Technical Efficiency is little in BCC model. The most famous team also has the worst performance. The System DEA shows that NL suppressed AL in all three results, while there is only a tiny variance in Pure Technical Efficiency as well, which proved that the DH regulation doesn’t affect the team performance on both leagues. Since most of the clubs are having an investment trend, but do little to enhance their winning percentage in long terms, the result suggests that it should be raising new player from minor leagues system instead of seeking top players with huge contracts.
