Basing on an extensive review of the literature form research framework and develop the questionnaire. Through the questionnaire survey, data were analyzed to test the significant differences of different personal variables and correlations among elementary school teachers’ job stress, emotional intelligence and work engagement. The samples was survey to 600 teachers those who come from 34 schools at Tainan area by stratified random sampling, after invalid responses were eliminated, 548 valid questionnaires were collected for a response rate of 91.3%. The conclusions and suggestions were conducted and analyzed by descriptive statistics analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis etc. The main findings of the study were as follows: 1. Gender, age, marital status, working years and school size of elementary school teachers showed significant differences on job stress. Educational backgrounds of elementary school teachers showed significant differences on emotional intelligence. Age, working years and school size of elementary school teachers showed significant differences on work engagement. Female teachers got higher workload stress. Teachers whose educational backgrounds in master's had higher ability of other’s emotional appraisal . Teachers that between 30 to 40 years old got lower supervisor support and colleagues support on job stress, and had poor vigor, absorption and work engagement. 2. Job stress had a significant correlation with work engagement. Emotional intelligence had a significant correlation with work engagement. Job stress had a significant correlation with emotional intelligence. 3. Job stress and emotional intelligence could predict vigor, dedication, absorption and entire work engagement. Work control is the most powerful factor. 4. Emotional intelligence to job stress and vigor, dedication, absorption, entire work engagement has partial mediation. Finally, based on these results mentioned above, this research can offer some suggestions for the education authorities, schools, elementary school teachers, and prospective researchers.
