碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 科技管理研究所 === 99 === The purpose of this study are not only to examine a focal firm’ s network centrality and structure hole to improve the value of firm, but also to consider the moderating effect of absorptive capacity on the focal relationships. This study used 502 R&D alliances within five industries in the United States from 1990 to 2006 as research targets. The results showed that the focal firm’s network centrality was negatively related to firm performance. By contrast, firm performance can be strengthened as the focal firm had higher structural hole scores. The absorptive capacity can moderates the relationship between network centrality and firm performance, but has no effect on the relationship between structure hole and firm performance.
