Description
Summary:碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 科技管理研究所 === 99 === In recent years, Taiwanese people have not had strong intentions to borrow books from public libraries than people in other countries have. However, for public libraries, it is an important issue to attract people to borrow books from the libraries. To achieve this goal, services provided by public libraries should be enhanced. At present, instead of initiatively providing book information for readers, most traditional public libraries passively provide services, in other words, the libraries do not provide services until readers check out books. Hence, this study used data mining to explore readers’ characteristics and book borrowing behaviors for a certain public library to help the library to enhance its services. It took readers’ profiles and book borrowing records from the library database. The study then employed a two-stage cluster analysis and association rules to get book readers’ borrowing preference. The results of the two-stage cluster analysis showed that the readers could be classified into four clusters, mid-aged housewives, female middle-aged civil and teaching personnel, male middle-aged of industrial personnel, and male elementary school students. Furthermore, by the analysis of association rules, the results found if readers of each cluster borrowed books belonging to classification of linguistics, the books checked out by most of the readers would be novels, Chinese children literatures, or American literatures. If readers of each cluster borrowed books belonging to classification of application science, the books checked out by most of the readers would be recipes, cooking, business management, or personal hygiene. The findings could provide references for book purchases and management of the public libraries to increase their service quality.
