The participants were 92 seventh-grade students from three classes at a junior high school in Tainan City. Vocabulary in the experimental group was taught by applying the English song instruction, whereas the participants in the control group received conventional explicit instruction. The study lasted for a sixteen-week period, with the instrumentation including vocabulary pre- and post-tests, the questionnaire, seven English songs and an interview. The quantitative data was analyzed by employing the SPSS program, version 17.0, which included descriptive statistics, t-tests, frequency percentages and mean score ranking, in order to identify significant findings and evaluate the students’ attitudes toward English song instruction. The qualitative data was collected from a follow-up interview. The results of the study showed that the English song instruction promote EFL junior high school students’ English learning, and that EFL learners have positive attitudes toward the English song instruction, including improvement and confidence in English learning. The results of the study also suggested that English song instruction as a facilitating approach to teach English to junior high students can be included into regular curriculum of English education.
