Description
Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 人類發展學系碩士班 === 99 === This research studies the height record among Chinese people in different areas and in different decades during the Qing Qianlong period. The main source of this database is “Xingke Tiben”—the civic crime record of the Qing period— which is taken down the victim records that have height and other body index. Xingke Tiben is known the earliest archive with height information in Asia. In the Qianlong period Xingke Tiben more than thousands of cases among 60 years were recorded which can be used to analyze the longitudinal change of height. Besides, those thousands of cases were spread every province which can be used to analyze the regional difference of height. Through analyzing over 1,800 cases, the results shows not many longitudinal change among most provinces, indicates not many economic development in the 18th century China, However, that northern Chinese dropped their height average for more than 10cm suggests that the dry weather and the upcoming famine effected the nutrition and welfare in northern Chinese in the 18th century.
