The Rationality of applying Fengshui to the Disposal of Furniture and Living Space

碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 創新設計研究所 === 99 === This study examined the way in which Fengshui specialists apply Fengshui, a long developed subject changing with modern lifestyle, to the use of interior space. The research purposes are as follows: (1) to serve as a reasoning basis for house buyers, (2) to offer a value added to interior designers’ service, (3) to illustrate different rationales behind Fengshui specialists and interior designers. Firstly, focus group interviews were conducted to identify core furniture and equipment, which were validated by plane inspection module. Secondly, in-depth interviews were carried out to obtain the final results. Differences of the results can be found through comparative analysis. The findings are as follows: (1) professional Fengshui specialists and interior designers, paying much attention on the positioning and use of doors, propose proper placement and examples depending on different conditions; (2) in order to keep living space less interrupted or undivided by furniture, large furniture is positioned by or paralleled to the wall. This helps to create a sense of security to users of the space. It can be concluded that users should make sure that the Fengshui specialists they hire have knowledge in both Fengshui and interior design. Meanwhile, interior designers should possess a certain level of knowledge in Fengshui so that they could effectively communicate Fengshui specialists’ opinions through planning, and the users could have a reasoning basis to account for.
