碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 99 === Philippe Gaubert (1879~1941) was one of the most representable flutists in L’école française de flûte (The French School of Flute). Besides being a flutist, Gaubert was also a famous composer and conductor. The excercise book 《La Méthode complète de Flûte》 (The Complete Method of Flute) that everyone who plays flute uses everyday was written and edited by Philippe Gaubert and his professor Paul Taffanel. The title of this thesis is《An Analysis and Interpretation of Philippe Gaubert’s Troisième Sonate pour Flûte et Piano》. This work accomplished in 1933 is filled with feelings of delight and joy; the flute’s beautiful sound and technique are perfectly expressed in this piece. The first chapter discusses the research motives, purpose and methods. The second chapter is Philippe Gaubert’s biography, a discussion of his compositional style, and an introduction to his background. The third chapter is an analysis of the Third sonata for flute and piano, which focuses on the study of the composition material and musical forms in each movement. The fourth chapter is an analysis based on the author’s interpretation of the music, and a discussion of putting the interpretation into practice. The fifth chapter is the conclusion.
