Most of the Chinese styles are subordinate to the English styles. When the English styles are translated into the Chinese styles, problems emerge because of the differences between the Chinese and the western languages and cultures. This study focuses on grammar, wording, and punctuation. Literature review, survey, and the integrated analysis methods were conducted to examine the pros and cons of the three big English styles and the Chinese styles. The current statuses of the Chinese visual-art theses were also examined. The purpose is to suggest appropriate thesis writing regulations which meet the international trend of academic writing and the Chinese writing environment. The results are used to revise the Thesis Writing Style Manual. The results are the followings: (1)In thesis writing, one must communicate with clear and neutral language;express logically and precisely; and provide results that contribute to the academic world. (2)The titles and headings of theses should assist in web searching and help organize the thinking and contents. (3)Researchers should, according to the Chinese environment, judge prudently and apply flexibly the principles of thesis writing. 吳宜澄 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 169 zh-TW
