His extensive contributions to the piano repertoire are full of poetry and singing, and required great technical mastery – all which opened a new era in the history of piano literature. Of the many types of Chopin’s compositions, the Mazurka is the most mysterious, full of Polish nationality, and fully reflects his style of introspective personality, nostalgia, and pessimism. This dissertation will discuss three major areas: 1) The source and origins of Polish folk dances, including the styles of Mazur, Kujawiak, and Obertas. 2) The introduction of Chopin’s four-part numbering system: Opus, Brown Index, Kobylanska Katalog, and Chominski Index, as well as the three most used publications of his works: the German Henle, PWM-Paderewski, and PWM-National Edition. 3) The study of form structure, tempo, tonality, harmony, rhythm, and the repeated use of short phrases and musical concepts in Chopin’s Mazurkas, and to demonstrate how both Polish folk music and classical music techniques were used to develop his very own unique artistic voice. 陳美鸞 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 172 zh-TW |
