Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 醫務管理學系 === 100 === This research analyzes the impact of market competition on quality of hemodialysis in Taiwan. The dataset used is mainly from the public information system of health care quality under Global Budgeting negotiation maintained by The Department of Health (DOH) during 2006 to 2009. This research used the number of hemodialysis providers located in certain distance as the measure of market competition. Two indicators are used for measuring the quality of health care: the mean of albumin and rebuild rate of fistula. In order to analyze the impact of market competition, ordinary least square (OLS) is used. Furthermore, the quantile regression is employed to estimate the impacts of competition on providers with various range of quality. Our results are as followed. (1) One additional new entrant significantly increases the quality of hemodialysis. (2) The impact of competition on quality is more significant for providers with better quality provided by our quantile regression results showing that the marginal effect is significantly higher for providers with quality in 90th percentile. (3) Quality indicators differ with hospitals located in different areas. One possible explanation is the inequality of health care in different areas. (4) Quality varies with hospital characteristics Specifically, the dialysis quality indicators are better for medical centers and private providers.
