Method: We analyzed the responses to challenges to professionalism for different occupational hierarchy of nurses, i.e. interns, professional registered nurses, and nurse managers in a medical center of Taiwan. A ChallengingCase Questionnaire was developed based on one developed by Barry et al. (2000). Case scenarios included conflict of interest, confidentiality, nursesimpairment, sexual harassment, recording fidelity, improper medical request, and informed consent. Results: We collected valid data from 217 nurse. The agreement among nurse mangers concerning the answers towards these challenging cases is higher than that obtained from nursing residents. The most challenging was the confidentiality scenario, in which 45.62% provided the best or 2nd best answers, followed by the informed consent scenario with 62.13% and thenurses impairment scenario with 68.67%. Conclusions: Many Taiwan’s nurses were unable to provide an acceptable response to challenging cases of professionalism in several issues. Greater teaching of professionalism is needed in nursing education and on-job trainings in Taiwan. H. M. Tseng 曾旭民 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 65 |
