In this study, an electrocardiogram (ECG) was used to monitor the real-time heart rate and analyze the HRV. ECG handle electrodes were used. ECG signal immediately displayed on the liquid crystal display and simultaneously was stored in micro SD card. This device was organized by an analog circuit, memory management chip, LCD monitors and MSP430 microcontroller. In the firmware, using different filters for digital signal processing, it can clearly determine the proper R-wave, calculate the R-R interval, and converse the spectrum of HRV. A MATLAB graphical user interface was designed to provide a easy using tool for health care or researcher to do heart rate variability analysis. Finally, elementary school teachers who now work on a high stress environment were considered as the group of mental work load. This device was used to evaluate their work load.
