The questionnaire were given to 400 certified basketball referees across Level C, B, A to FIBA International certification, and total of 335 were received as valid. The demographic background shows the most population of basketball referee is male, and the majorities engage in the officiating profession before 30 years old. The basketball referees, who had majored in physical education, played intercollegiate basketball, or had coaching experiences, perform well as a referee. In Taiwan, basketball officiating is considered as a part-time job when most of them were full-time teachers or students. Regarding the referee certified program, with the advance of each basketball referee certified level, the training course should be introduced from basics, such as basketball regulations, rules and ability of scoring, to more advanced, including refereeing psychology, skills and tactics on court. The qualification for the certified program could be lower to age 18 and retired in age 55. Lastly, the continuing education for certification renewal are emphasized as a key opinion among referees to maintain and enhance the officiating profession in duty for the long term.
