Taiwan is extremely competitive globally in this sector, being the 6th largest producer and the 4th largest exporter in the world in 2010. The supply of sub-component machine tools is relatively significant to the future development of the above industry. The S Company, therefore, expects to recreate cost-base competitive advantages in emerging markets such as China on the back of its original brand strength. However, is the coexistence of cost and differentiation advantages doable? After in-depth interviews and analyzing the data collected, this research found that it is feasible for differentiation strategy and cost advantages to coexist for S Company, based on its brand and resource capabilities, strategic business units built, and regional market selections. With the findings of this research, and the application of them into theories and practices, we expect to make contributions useful to theoretical developments and how corporations may create competitive advantages in the future.
