It also examined the methods Montessori teachers use to develop the characters of young children and understood the activities and prepared environments which help develop the characters of young children. Qualitative data was collected and analyzed two teachers and fifteen children aged from three to six years in the Dolphin class of a preschool in New Taipei City. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. In a Montessori classroom, the teachers teach children with kind and gentle attitude, and also listen to them. Additionally, the teachers must be models of specific roles: sensitive observers, preparers, directors, demonstrators, and communicators. All of these roles are benefit to develop the good characters of young children. 2. In a Montessori classroom, the Montessori lessons and activities can develop specific good characteristics in the children: concentration, independence, responsibilities, sharing by practicing and experiencing in life. In addition to Montessori lessons and activities, the teachers can also use picture books and dramas. 3. In a Montessori classroom, the two factors of prepared environments are “Physical Environment” and “Humanistic Environment”. In a bright, safe and mixed-aged environment, the young children can develop positive characters. Some suggestions for Montessori teachers, preschool teachers, parents and future studies on this topic were also made in this study. KWO, WEI-SHIA 郭維夏 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 137 zh-TW
