Even after all these years, experts are still attempting to find better and efficient ways to predict and resolve this very issue. The first research from which the research was extended discusses the most common cause, effects and solutions that have been provided. To see if similar ideas still exist in the more current literature, articles that dealt with these very concepts were researched. The articles were obtained through the search engine of Google Scholar and PubMed. Each article that mentioned or discussed causes, effects, and or solutions was put through a restricted time frame from 2008- 2012. Articles that did not have this time frame apply to them were ones dealing with the definition of overcrowding. In the search, the terms specified were: “cause of emergency department crowding”, “emergency department overcrowding”, “solutions for emergency department overcrowding”, “effects of emergency department crowding”, and “definition of emergency department overcrowding”. Out of these articles, 3 discussed causes, 6 discussed effects, and 4 discussed solutions.
