The word “baroque” indicates originally an imperfect pearl, but became a term used in arts. This art style was popular in Europe from 1600 to 1750, which was between mannerism of 16th century and rococo of 18th century.
This thesis follows the still life and landscape paintings and the sculptures and architecture of Rococo, and applies rococo’s intense features such as fluency, drama and exaggeration. Chiaroscuro is used to depict objects and unify frames to create dramatic lights, shadows and colors. Massive amounts of curves and vines show quality of inextricable luxury. Diagonal lines, curves and arcs are also used to give a feeling of dynamic. The works express fluent and complicated dramatic effects, and twenty art pieces which combine cosmetics and body painting are designed.
This thesis is divided into five chapters；Chapter 1 “Introduction” states the motive and purpose of study, the research methods, and the study procedure and terms definitions； Chapter 2 “Baroque Styling Aesthetics，” discusses the background and properties of baroque art. Chapter 3 “Styles of Baroque Makeup” describe the different baroque makeup styles in the 17th century and recent times. Chapter 4 “Analysis on Creative Works of Baroque Makeup” states idea and direction of creations. Chapter 5 “Conclusion” gives a summary of the study results.
