Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 土木工程學系碩博士班 === 100 === The traditional design practice is characterized as a linear procedure, high level of fragmentations of silos of knowledge and expertise, and paper-based document centric communication model. The design practice has evolved dramatically from the traditionally linear procedure to an iterative procedure, which is mainly applied in current design practice, to a preferred integrated procedure. However, effective project information communication and coordination among project participants still is a key challenge.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an emerging development in the AEC industry. It is not just a new technology but a process transforming the Industry and re-engineering design and construction processes. BIM may be used as an information sharing repository to shift the traditionally linear and paper-based document centric model of project communication to model-based mechanism model, which has great potential to solve the above problem of Design Practice.
The paper proposes an information need framework developed based on BIM process maps which prepared for each design phase in an attempt to support for adopting BIM technology in Design Practice.
