Residential and commercial mixed use in the Taiwan city has became quite common. Although residential and commercial mixed use is convenience, commercial activities may bring negative impacts on the living environment and quality of life. The urban area is divided for different purposes, such as residential, business, and industrial by the law regulation in Taiwan. The commercial activities, which are determinant by the difference in distinct, traffic situation, population structure, and consumer behaviors, shaping different type of commercial distinct as the change in the need among the resident and social change. The influence of infrastructure for business (Commercial facilities) on the environment is different as different type of business activity, and consequently, impact the quality of life among residents. Three business and one residential districts, defined by the unban plan of East distinct in Tainan city, were investigated in the present study. To understand the difference on quality of life in these four districts, the influence of living environment on the quality of life among residents in residential and commercial mixed use was assessed. This study used questionnaires for survey with 390 responses. Factor analysis, independent sample t test, and one factor ANOVA were employed for statistical analysis. The results showed that: 1. Residents in street business district have lowest level of quality of life than others distinct, and residents in regional and neighborhood-type business district have lower level of quality of life than pure residential area. This may imply residential and commercial mixed use have global impact on the quality of life among residents. 2. Each facet in quality of life was influence by important factors, such as age, occupation, education level, the average monthly income, the form of home building and residence time, while not associated with gender and family size effects.
