The antenna array is one of the most important technologies in wireless communication. This then motivates us to develop efficient optimization flowchart to design antenna arrays. In this thesis, we utilize the new evolutionary optimization algorithms to achieve optimum design of antenna arrays. Thus the electromagnetic energy of communication can be collected together and electromagnetic interferences can be reduced. This problem is very complicated and is involved in lots of computational difficulties. The evolutionary optimization algorithms utilized in this study include the Water Flow Optimization Algorithm (WFOA), the Artificial Fish Swarm Optimization Algorithm (AFSOA), and the Water Flow Optimization Algorithm with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO-WFOA). These optimization algorithms will help us to achieve the optimum design of antenna arrays. With the use of proposed optimization flowchart, the side-lobe level of array radiation pattern is greatly degraded by adjusting the positions and exciting weights for elements of antenna arrays under the constraint of certain beam-width. The proposed optimization flowchart can also be utilized to treat many other nonlinear optimization problems in engineering.
