IT not only impacts human lifestyle and space requirement, but also becomes necessary for urban and regional planners. However, the study of how planners use IT is rare. In this study, we analyzed the knowledge distribution between urban and regional planning and IT by web pages and academic literatures in United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea through WWW service and Web of Science. The results showed that the fields of basic categories and mathematic models, planning notions and processes, reasoning systems, technology promotion, and new technology were popular between urban and regional planners, but the dynamic systems, decision support, and visual simulation were not. The study also found that it changed dramatically for urban and regional planners’ attention over the last decade. For instances, they paid attention to new technology such as remote sensing, PDA, and wireless telecommunications and issues of information sharing and technology diffusion, but not to database management (DBMS). At the academic literatures session, it found that the discussions in all fields were cold, and there were no searching results for many nodes of fields in the database of Web of Science. Among them, the field of basic categories and mathematic models was slightly better in discussions. In Google scholar, the discussions in the fields of basic categories and mathematic models, planning notions and processes were warm, but the fields of technology promotion, decision support, and visual simulation were cold. According to the result of analysis, we can picture the knowledge distribution and change between urban and regional planning and IT over the last decade. The findings can also guide the direction of research and development for them in the future. Feng-Tyan Lin 林峰田 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 111 zh-TW
