Thelytokous Parthenogenesis of Strumigenys rogeri (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 生物學系 === 100 === Currently there are 13 species of Strumigenys, 9 of which are endemic species of Taiwan. The subject investigated in this paper is Strumigenys rogeri Emery, exotic species which is native to Africa. We record the individual quantity of egg, larva, pupa and adult (worker and queen) with continuous observation, learn its life cycle and thelytokous parthenogenesis, and investigate the influence of temperature regulation to the development of ant nest, as well as the influence of worker ant quantity to larva. According to the result, queens of S. rogeri can continuously produce eggs without mating, and produce amphiploid female workers and queens, which we called obligate thelytoky. They can produce new workers and queens in at least 39 days. The number of workers and young individuals (including eggs, larva, pupa) is increased as the environment temperature is adjusted from 24℃ to 26℃, while there is no high relativity between worker number and young individuals number.
