Located in the coastal area of central Taiwan, Lukang is a famous cultural tourist spot. Owning distinguished features as its tourism resources, Lukang was chosen as one of Competitive International Charming Tourist Spot in Taiwan in 2009 and the Top Ten Tourism Town in 2012. Because the love of Lukang, I use both qualitative and quanti- tative methods to study the way of sustainable development when it comes to local tourism. Aside from these, the SWOT method would also be adopted in the research in order to find the possibility on cutural ecotourism in Lukang.
The quantitative analysis represents that the category of the cognition of cultural ecotourism got better results, representing the high popularity of Lukang, but that of “willing to do his or her possible for conserving the cultural heritage in Lukang” seems to be low. It shows different results when tourists played different roles in regarding cultural heritage in Lukang. On the other hand, the inhabitants look forward to developing eco- tourism in Lukang, yet they are loath to do something when policies endanger the live- lihood of their own. In a word, increasing the investments by the governments, endeavor- ing of local working groups for culture and history, and connecting with other scenic spots, for instance, Fu-Xing Barn, Yi Yuan Historical Home, Taiwan Glass Gallery and BRAND’S Health Museum, would guide itself to be a professional cultural tourist spot.
Last but not the least, the research also focuses on the impact of megaevent activities, such as Taiwan Lantern Festival in 2012, with some in-depth interviews, and it shows proactive policies would be most important front burner that government provides. Consequently, the research aims at analyzing the development of cultural ecotourism and the cognition of environmental ethics with bi-method, and the result provides a good foundation for future studies.
