Similar behaviors in TmB4 was found several years ago. We try to understand the behavior of the magnetization plateaus by the classical spin Hamiltonian on the Shastry-Sutherland lattice. In this thesis, we identify the magnetization plateaus by Monte Carlo simulation. The spin orientation for the plateau can be known. Furthermore, several modifications to the spin Hamiltonian are also considered. In conclusion, only the magnetization plateau at 1/3 of the saturation value is found, for the classical spin Hamiltonian on the Shastry-Sutherland lattice. To be consistent with the experiments, the classical Hamiltonian should be excluded and the quantum effect takes place.
