This study is a comparative study of the three Chinese versions of the famous novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. By comparing the differences among the three Chinese versions, this study explores faithfulness in literary novel translation. This study discussed faithfulness in translation in terms of meaning, style and culture in four chapters. Chapter One discusses the background, motivation, purpose, significance and outline of the study. Chapter Two is a literature review includeing faithfulness in Chinese and Western translation theories. It also provides an overview of Mark Twain and his novel “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. Chapter Three compares the three Chinese versions in their successful and unsuccessful attempts at achieving faithfulness in terms of meaning. Chapter Four discusses the comparison of the three Chinese versions from the perspective of style and cultural faithfulness. Chapter Five provides the conclusion and suggestions for future study. This study is a comparative study of the three Chinese versions of the famous novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. By comparing the differences among the three Chinese versions, this study explores faithfulness in literary novel translation.
