Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 特殊教育學系所 === 100 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the physical fitness condition of school-age students with Down syndrome(DS) and its difference comparing to the same age students with IDD without DS in Miaoli County, and further to analyze the factors regarding the physical fitness of school-age students with DS. A physical fitness test for students with disabilities was delivered to understand the physical fitness condition of school-age students with and without DS. Students with better and worse test score were then selected to have semi-structural interviews with their teachers and parents in order to understand the potential factors which might have influences on physical fitness. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1.The physical fitness condition of school-age students with DS in Miaoli County (1)Students who are overweight and obese are approximately 30% among all. (2)The cardiorespiratory fitness of female students increases with school years. On the other hand, the cardiorespiratory fitness of male students is better during elementary and high school years than junior high. (3)Muscular fitness of students with DS is significantly below average than students with the same age. (4)There is a significantly individual difference of flexibility. (5)Background factors such as “gender”, “school-age”, “level of retardation”, and “with or without other disabilities” can affect the difference of physical fitness of students with DS. (6)There is a significantly positive correlation between cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular fitness. 2.The difference of physical fitness condition between school-age students with DS and with IDD without DS in Miaoli County (1)The body composition of female students with DS is similar to female students with IDD without DS. As for male students with DS, the body composition increases with school year and is gradually higher than male students with IDD without DS. (2)The cardiorespiratory fitness of students with DS is below average than students with IDD without DS. (3)The muscular fitness of high-school age female students with DS is slightly better than female students with IDD without DS. The muscular fitness of other school-age students with DS has below average performance than students with IDD without DS. (4)The flexibility of students with DS is better than students with IDD without DS. 3.The potential factors regarding the physical fitness of school-age students with DS (1)The potential factors for making the physical fitness of some students with DS better than their peers are ”diligent and active personality”, “fine physical condition”, “regular daily routine”, and “appropriate exercise training and physical activity”. (2)The potential factors for making the physical fitness of some students with DS worse than their peers are “Introverted and inactive personality”, “complicated problems of body abnormality”, “insufficient exercise training”, and “parental attitude toward teaching and nurturing”.
