It also investigates the letters between Fang-wen and his friends and his philosophy of life. Fang-wen had written a large number of poems, including such various topics as natural life, life experience, homesickness, grief of subjugated nation, and mourning of his friends’ death. His poems features simple, experienced, honest, and sincere writing style. The results indicate that Fang-wen underwent the cultural shock brought by Manchu, and he overcame the crisis of existence and self-identity by drift, traveling, fortune-telling, and curing. With the process of drift, Fang-wen not only overcame his life difficulties but also looked for self-identity through recognizing the objective environment again and recall the lost home.
