Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 幼兒教育學系研究所 === 100 === Abstract This research investigates the fathers’ images and the attachment between single father and their children of the cross-national marriages. The participants are five Year-5-pupils from the primary schools in the south of Taiwan, including Chiayi County, Mingshon Township, and Baihe District. They live with their father after their parents divorced. Qualitative research method is adopted and the data are from semi-structured in-depth interviews and pupils’ drawings and writings. The findings are concluded as below: 1.Four issues, including body images, personality, behaviors in daily life, and family roles, formulate the participants’ father images. The pupils expressed positive images, such as caring and cook for them, nice and warm, etc., even though the general social impressions toward the single fathers marrying with foreign wives persisting the negative descriptions such as low social status, disabled, poor, and old. 2.The findings suggested that the children’s relationships with the divorced mothers are key factors deciding the attachment between single fathers and their children. The participants stated that their positive relationship and social support from their mothers or other family members, distracts them from building attachment with their single fathers. Furthermore, it causes difficulties for the daughters to build up new relationships with fathers’ partners. Based upon the findings above, the researcher proposes the following suggestions: 1.Single fathers with negative social images, particularly the men who married with foreign wives. Hence, the welcome social value and open attitudes toward the cross-national marriage families seems to be an important issue. 2.Some single fathers are busy with their work and they may ignore the interactions with their children. They may need the advices of positive parenting strategies. 3.The children need to build up positive attachment with not only the parent-live-with but also the one who is away from home, particularly the immigrant mothers.
