Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 數學教育研究所 === 100 === The purpose of this case study was to investigate a sixth-grade gifted student’s problem solving performance on mathmatical averaging problems. The task was composed of five basic problems and five advanced mathmatical averaging problems. Structured task-based interviews were conducted to collect data. The Polya problem solving steps were utilized to analyze data. The result of study could be summarized as follows: 1. Understanding the problem: The case had keen insight into the context and core of the problem. 2. Devising a plan: The case looked through the key issues in context. Thus, the student developed a comprehensive problem-solving plan, effectively integrated the conditions given by the problem to shorten the problem-solving path, thus obtained the correct answer. 3. Looking back: After the case solved questions, reflective thinking or proposed alternative strategies were used to check the reasonableness of answer.
