Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 觀光休閒管理研究所 === 100 === Since the middle of twentieth century, travelers around the world preferred more to travel in different ways. These travelers enjoy flexible and free travel styles, and backpackers are one of them. Backpackers pay much attention to the interaction with local people and other travelers. They organize the trips by themselves and use their standpoints to know the destination in more details, and in this way gain the values of the trip they expected. Previous research explored some of the unique qualities of backpackers, but these findings didn’t clarify the kind of benefits backpackers usually pursue in their travel experience, and the way they link these benefits to their personal values so as to acquire the experience and values corresponding to their ideals. Therefore, this study uses the “Means-end chain” to examine their experiences, identifying their attributes, benefits, and values. Destinations of Taiwanese backpackers spread all over the world. In-depth interview 60 Taiwanese backpackers is conducted via MSN and face-to-face meeting. The results show that seven attributes are recognized, i.e. natural scenery, man-made facility and activity, environment protection, Well-developed transport, local culture, local food, lifestyle, nationality, public security; seven consequences are recognized, i.e. relax, convenient, relieve by the stress, realize the local, feel relieved, kindness, the attraction fresh, comfortable; our values are recognized, i.e. wonderful, happiness, knowledge increase, self-development and unforgivable memories. In addition, HVM hierarchical value map shows that backpackers’ want to expand their knowledge and broaden their horizon through their journey. And different chain relationship were yielded from different gender and age. Regarding gender, the men generated by the value, as compared with women, have more actual effects, women considered intrinsic psychological value is also important; and in age 15-24 compare with age 25-60 shows more centralized model, they hope to obtain the actual effect in travel. Consequently, through this study, what Taiwanese backpackers want during their trip can be realized. They can be taken into consideration for backpackers when they plan future journey and for related travel agencies when they develop tour products.
